Our Explore Ride to Sapua Dam in Dhenkanal was the perfect combination of thrill, nature, and brotherhood. This hidden gem of Odisha offered a peaceful escape through winding roads, forest stretches, and serene lakeside views β all packed into a one-day ride full of unforgettable moments.
π Ride Overview
Start Point: Bhubaneswar
Destination: Sapua Dam, Hindol Range, Dhenkanal
Distance: ~95β100 km (one way)
Terrain: Mixed β highway, forest roads, village paths
Highlight: Serpent-shaped dam, forest entry, lakeside chilling
π Morning Flag-Off
The ride started early morning from Bhubaneswar, with all bikes lined up in formation. After a quick briefing, we hit NH-55, heading toward Dhenkanal. With morning mist around and helmets locked in, the group moved in perfect rhythm. The early light made the road views magical, with nature slowly waking up.
Crossing Dhenkanal town, we diverted into forest-side roads. These narrow, tree-lined trails were quiet and cool, perfect for riding slow and steady. The sound of engines echoed beautifully in the still forest, and every turn brought us closer to our destination.
π£οΈ Into the Heart of Nature
The final stretch toward Sapua Dam was slightly offbeat β red gravel roads, mild elevation, and beautiful countryside views. We slowed down and enjoyed every bit of it. This is where BBO riders shine β balancing adventure with discipline and team spirit.
π The Serpent-Shaped Dam
Reaching Sapua Dam felt like entering a painting. Built in a coiled shape that resembles a snake ("Sapua" in Odia), the dam is surrounded by lush greenery, calm waters, and distant hills. We parked near the embankment and walked toward the dam top for a panoramic view.
For about two hours, we explored the area β some rode around the perimeter, others relaxed near the water, and the rest clicked dozens of photos. The peace of the place made us forget the world. It wasnβt about mileage anymore β it was about the moment.
πΈ Capturing the Experience
Drone shots, wide-angle group photos, and candid bike poses filled our memories (and our SD cards). Sapuaβs symmetry from above was stunning, and riders positioned bikes creatively for reels and snapshots. The reflection of clouds in the dam water made everything look dreamlike.
π₯ͺ Picnic Vibes & Break Time
Some riders carried dry snacks, fruits, and hydration packs. We set up a mini rest area under a banyan tree, shared our food, and cracked jokes while lying on our jackets. This wasn't just a ride; it was a picnic on wheels.
π Return Ride
By noon, we packed up and rode back the same route, this time slower, absorbing the sights we missed on the way. We stopped for a local meal at a roadside eatery near Odapada β simple thali and chai that tasted like gold after the ride.
